An analysis of climate change and health hazards: results from an international study

Purpose The interconnections between climate change and health are well studied. However, there is a perceived need for studies that examine how responses to hazards (e.g. cardiovascular diseases, ozone layer effects, allergens, mental vector-borne diseases) may assist in reducing their impacts. purpose of this paper review the evidence on list some measures address them. Design/methodology/approach A mixed literature review, bibliometric analysis an original online survey were undertaken 140 participants from 55 countries spread across all geographical regions. Findings identified most climate-related associated with extreme weather events. only one-third investigated papers specifically analysed connections hazards, revealing thematic gap. Also, although Africa highly affected by change, 5% assessed focused continent. Many respondents indicated “heat distress” as significant vulnerability. also social determinants relevant climate-induced vulnerabilities, such socioeconomic environmental factors, infrastructure pre-existing conditions. Most agree policies regulations effective adaptation tools public triggered change.
